Before the container arrives

Make separate keep, donate, recycle, and dispose areas before the first load. Keep documents, medication, jewelry, and other personal items out of the disposal pile.
Choose a firm, accessible staging spot and clear the route from the house. Ask the hauler about boards under the rails when the container sits on a driveway.
Place heavier items flat on the floor, then break down shelves, tables, and other bulky pieces to use the space evenly. Keep the load level with the top rail.
Keep paint, fuel, tires, batteries, propane, refrigerant appliances, and other prohibited items out. Check the accepted-item list before loading.
Schedule pickup after the final sweep, and contact the hauler early if the cleanout needs extra days or a different size.
